- Francesco Bagnaia looks to win three MotoGP World Championships in a row in 2024
- Marc Marquez is one of the early betting favorite despite not winning a MotoGP World Championship since 2019
- Bagnaia continued his winning ways, taking first in the opening race of the 2024 MotoGP season
The 2024 MotoGP season began the same way that the 2023 season did, with Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia taking first place in the year’s opening race. Last year, the 27-year-old Bagnaia kept the momentum from the first race throughout most of the season and captured his second straight MotoGP championship. Bagnaia won seven races in 2022 and matched that total in 2023. With the consistency he has shown throughout the past three MotoGP seasons, Bagnaia is now the favorite to win the 2024 MotoGP championship.
Jorge Martin, another Ducati rider, finished second in the world championship in 2023. He won four races. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi, who also rides a Ducati, finished third, winning three times.
The 2024 MotoGP season began on March 10 in Qatar and wraps up on November 17 in Valencia. Currently, 21 MotoGP Grand Prix races are scheduled for this season
The big news during the offseason was that six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez left Honda. Marquez will ride a Ducati for Gresini Racing in 2024. He joins his brother Alex on the team. Marc finished last year in 14th place, while Alex wrapped up 2023 in the ninth spot.

Francesco Bagnaia
The defending MotoGP world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, has been the dominant force in MotoGP over the past three years, winning two world titles and picking up 18 grand prix race victories. Last year, Bagnaia, who rides for Ducati Lenovo, picked up seven wins. However, he faded a bit in the second half of the season, “only” winning two races of the last 10 of the season. However, he did have four second-place finishes and two thirds during that time.
Bagnaia finished 16 grand prix races last year and made the podium in all but one of those races. He finished 16th in the second grand prix of the year. Bagnaia has been one of the most consistent MotoGP riders over the past three years. It would be a shock to see him slip and lose much ground in 2024.
Bagnaia opened the 2024 MotoGP season with a win at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar.
The defending champ had betting odds of +250 to win the title in 2024 before the year’s first race.
Jorge Martin
The 26-year-old Jorge Martin has only been racing on the MotoGP circuit for three years. He opened his MotoGP career in 2021 by finishing ninth. He stayed in that same spot in 2022, but he broke through last year and placed second, making a run for the title at the same time Francesco Bagnaia found himself struggling.
Martin rides a Ducati for Prima Pramac Racing. He finished 2023 with four grand prix victories, including three of the last nine races of the year. A fast rider, Martin started every grand prix in 2023, but he had four races that he did not finish. If he can keep up his speed and reduce the number of crashes he has in 2024, Martin could give Bagnaia a run for his money at the top of the standings.
Martin started the 2024 season with a third-place finish in Qatar. His opening odds to win the 2024 world title were +450.
Marc Marquez
The preseason favorite to win the 2024 MotoGP championship, Marc Marquez, has watched his odds adjust from -133 to +275 following the first race of the 2024 MotoGP season. Marquez moved on from Honda in the offseason, and he now rides a Ducati for Gresini Racing. Marquez finished in fourth place in Qatar, but he said one reason for placing in that spot was he was afraid he would crash in the late stages of the race if he pushed his bike, and his tires, too much. Chalk that up as a learning experience for Marquez and his new team.
The 30-year-old was the dominant rider between 2013 and 2019, winning six world titles and placing third in 2015, the only year during that stretch when he failed to win the world championship. Things haven’t gone his way since then as he has only won three race wins in the past three years. Marquez had zero victories in 2022 and 2023. His best placing in 2023 was third in Japan.
While the Ducati will make Marquez a much more competitive racer on the track, there are concerns about him making it to race day. Marquez has missed significant time in the past few MotoGP seasons because of injuries.
For those who like Marquez to make a comeback in 2024, he presents a lot more betting value now than before the 2024 MotoGP season began.
Best bet to win the 2024 MotoGP World Championship
Anyone who thought Francesco Bagnaia would drop off between 2023 and 2024 had those thoughts dashed following the first race of the year in Qatar. Because of that, the betting pick is that the consistent Francesco Bagnaia will win the 2024 MotoGP world championship.
